Standard buffer tube retaining pins are a weak point in the AR/M4 weapon system that when broken, create a catastrophic failure should you need to field strip your AR/M4, which is hard to repair in the field. Rather than risking such failures, we choose to invest in a product that reduces that risk to as close to zero as possible.

The Leitner-Wise G2 Heavy Duty Buffer Retainer has a precisely angled strike face that corresponds to the vertical plane of the buffer assembly giving a greater area of surface contact. The impact of the buffer weight although in theory should be minimal, is displaced over a greater surface area, and because of how the pin is designed, it is able to withstand any impact, unlike a traditional buffer retaining pin.  The G2 heavy-duty buffer retaining pin is also a great addition to any LAW Tactical folding stock, as when folded, your buffer system is exposed. Lastly, we choose to use this upgraded buffer retaining pin as its larger footprint makes for easier depression of the pin with and without gloved hands. Simply put, these are the last retaining pins you will ever need to buy.

    These G2 detents can take a beating and stay intact. The design aids in no shearing off like stock buffer detents can and do. I’ve used these buffer detents in 6 builds so far and 2 more will be done this year~ I have made the G2 my GoTo for Buffer Detents now, full confidence they will do the job and not fail. No matter the round count

    This is how buffer retaining “pins” should have been designed from day one! This is such a marvel of engineering, I hate to say it is so “simple”, so as not to take away from Edgar Sherman Design, as this is a very needed and high quality machined part. How anyone thought a tiny little pin sticking up could handle such BCG forces and tolerance deviations, really makes no sense, except from the “produced by the lowest contract bidder” mentality. Do yourself a favor, and buy as many of these Edgar Sherman Design retainers for every AR build you have.

    Fantastic buffer pins. Not sure why they’re not all made this way? Great fit and functions fine. Just of note, I bought this kind of half expecting it to come with a pin spring. Just know it does not come with one. I know it may be viewed as a replacement, but I was building an AR part by part and had to order a spring separately with shipping from another seller, which was kind of frustrating. My fault. I should have called. I know most use lower parts kits, but I was building all custom as many do (Geisselle trigger, Radian lower/safety, etc) where parts come with their own pins/springs. Perhaps a checkbox in the future to add a spring for an upcharge. Seems like a small thing and quality of life improvement to consider. Outstanding products from ESD. I’ve always been impressed at how fast they ship things out (seriously, I get notification it seems within the hour) and the quality is second to none on their offerings.

    This is a fantastic little upgrade to your rifle and I highly, highly recommend it! I’ll be putting it in all my current rifles and ALL future builds. I also prefer to run silent captured buffer springs, and this pin works with JP Enterprises, Armaspec, Unrivaled, and any others, without any issues. It’s even significantly better than the replacement detent pin from JP Enterprises!
    This Leitner-Wise G2 Heavy Duty Buffer retainer has an angled tip to it that allows the tungsten weights on the captured springs to slide smoothly over it. Much better than the captured spring weights smashing into the mil-spec (or other replacement) detent pin and pushing it out of the way by recoil force. This detent pin makes the cycling run even smoother, removes the subtle change in charging handle tension, and removes a very small audible click when those captured buffer weights make contact with the pin. Works beautifully with the standard mil-spec buffer spring and tube as well.
    I’m very, very impressed with the “bang-for-your-buck” value of this upgrade. It’s a must-have for your AR platform!
