The inchworm is the newest product in our line here at ESD. While it may look like something simple this small, minimal design can provide a unique capability when building various prepared shooting positions.
Precision shooters have long used tripods, which are essential because they provide stability, consistency, and comfort, which are crucial for achieving accurate and reliable results. They offer a stable platform for the rifle in positions that couldn’t be achieved while prone—reducing unwanted movement caused by breathing, muscle fatigue, or environmental factors like wind.
Previously companies have designed slings specifically suited for tripod shooting that tie into a shooter’s belt to increase stability. The major issue with these slings is they are either too specialized that they don’t make good fighting rifle slings or they are a hybrid sling design and are not very good at either being a fighting rifle sling or a precision rifle sling. We liked the concept of those slings however their downsides needed to be solved. Our goal was to provide the same functionality in a much more compact package that brings the quality you know and love by having it made here at ESD with the performance and slick functionality of the ESD sling. So how did we create a rifle sling that is functional enough to be used on a fighting rifle but also can be used to get the most out of something like a MK12 Mod1 on a tripod?
We at ESD solved this problem by looking at the original HOG Leash Design we made for Ridgeline Defense and employed the KISS methodology (Keep It Super Simple). We took our tried-and-true ESD Sling and added a simple removable tie-in point. This allowed end users to keep a streamlined sling free of larger snag hazards. The Inchworm is constructed of a laminate material and a pair of ITW triglides which are all made right here in the USA from all Berry Compliant Materials. The inchworm is also adjustable in location unlike most other slings designed for tripod work so now users can place it wherever they want on the rear of their sling to ensure proper fitment for their body, rifle, and tripod. In short, the Inchworm on an ESD sling creates what we would call a sniper lite sling, all the features you need to get the job done without any of the downsides.
To install the Inchworm you simply thread the rear of your ESD sling, or if you feel like disappointing us it will work on any other company’s 1-inch width sling. Once it is out of the way of any sling adjustment range, flatten it out to reduce any snag hazards. Then when you are ready to start shooting simply grab a carabiner, hook it into the inchworm, and then connect it to your belt creating that super sturdy triangle shooting position.
